Bounty Lady Episode 18

OMG! Never had I laughed so much and so hard and so often watching a comedy from TVB. Bounty Lady episode 18 seriously exceeded all expectations at being so outrageously funny thanks to the antics and chemistry between Dayo Wong's Kwong Nam and the really scary and sex starved "Laura".

I haven't seen the actress playing Laura before. Does anyone have any information about her? Is she a movie actress or a theatre actress? She was amazing!

No TVB actress could have played that character. Love the scene where she sprayed water at Sammy Shum! And Dayo truly deserved the Best Actor award. The way he was so scared of this Laura really proved his comedic timing and versatility as an actor. A pity this episode came out after the awards because if it was before, I am sure the actress playing Laura would have been a serious contender for some award! What an amazing episode!!

And it is ending at 20 episodes! Awwwww when the fun was just... escalating!!

[O] TVB 46th Anniversary Awards Presentation 2013

UPDATES - 17.12.2013
I have been reading many comments by netizens and most were happy with this year's result and the surprise win by Dayo Wong. I am still reeling with shock, in a good way. There were some comments about rigging but seriously, if there was rigging, why should Dayo be the winner? Should be Francis who will be filming the TITS movie or someone else. Dayo was the dark horse of all dark horses. I think the voting is fair. He must have his fans amongst the peers (writers, etc) who admires his talent and he wasn't last place with fans. I am just surprised Wayne who is usually very popular with both didn't get a place in top 5. As for the so called strange speech by Chilam bordering arrogant, frankly I do think he is a sore loser and he looked like he wasn't very happy but I also think he is not eloquent and his speech, whilst maybe quite truthful may have been misconstrued. Frankly I was quite surprised by what he said as well. Overall these are good results and will salvage TVB's image in terms of awards and so called rigging.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED ON 16.12.2013
I am in shocked!! First the results for the main categories..

Most Improved
Eliza Shum and Vincent Wong

Best Supporting
Benz Hui and Elena Kong

Best Lead (TV King & TV Queen)
Kristal Tin and Dayo Wong

Most Favourites
Chilam and Kristal

Best Series
Triumph In The Skies II

Lifetime Achievement Awards
Lau Siu Ming

Wow! Dayo Wong is TV king!! I was so shocked! He got 1st place with peers voting but 3rd with fans. The 2nd guy got 1st with fans but 3rd with peers. I suspect that is Chilam. The 3rd must be Kenneth. Chilam when he won Most Favourite to me said something I feel inappropriate; kinda bragging he won fans' voting. Dayo was so funny! He wasn't there; Dodo called him on her phone and some highlights...

1. Dodo? You haven't called for 1 or 2 years!
2. Is Best Actor same as TV king? How many can win TV king?
3. How did I win?... 50% peers and 50% fans? That's... very fair system!

I laughed my head off! The last person I expected to win was Dayo and you know what? I think he is a deserving TV King! I did hope he would win at some point! Poor Ruco... he never had the chance anyway. Francis Ng actually voted for Dayo! Now that's good taste!

I was already psyched when Vincent won. But the most moving had to be the 3 or was it 4 veterans given honorary awards. That was such an enjoyable moment.

The slight pimple is best series. Ridiculous that series won! Should be Inbound Troubles!

Anyway great results which I won't dispute. I feel the winners are fair and well chosen. I will like to say congrats to TV King, Dayo Wong and TV Queen, Kristal Tin who cried from the moment she opened her mouth until she finished talking!

Whilst Dodo seems a bit off today, I seriously enjoyed this show tonight. I think the winning list in some ways established the credibility TVB yearns and it is a small step but nonetheless a good one.

Fashion wise, it was like horror show. Bosco and Edwin the usual ugly fashionistas. Koo Ming WahKenneth Ma, Wayne Lai, NFrancis Ng for me were best dressed. Ruco looked literally like a cow. Why? WHY?! Girls' side, not one standout although plenty of skins.

By the way, Anthony Wong was a guest presenter. As usual he seems smug. My biggest surprise was seeing Cheung Tat Ming. Whilst he looked ill, he looked like he was recovering from being ill. His voice is strong and he was funny. So happy to see him well!!

Oh yeah, TVB actually showed the percentage, number of votes, etc except announcing 2nd and 3rd place. That to me is an improvement.

TVB Calender for 2014

UPDATES - 14.12.2013
Wow it seems this year there are limited number of calendars to give out. As usual I got the table calendar but surprise surprise I got also the wall calendar which is much bigger. Love going through the front page and see who stands where. The rest inside is quite awful due to over photoshop!

ORIGINALLY POSTED ON 05.11.2013
The TVB calendar for 2014 is out, and you can view them all here at Casual TVB. Last year's theme was happy time so you saw very many levels of party going people, including party for old people, party for young people and that sort, except for one strange one which was a bunch of macho looking guys running from or away from something.

This year the theme seems to  be rather about balls and phallic symbols. Sorry, that's what I saw. Most obvious was the month of May with Charmaine being the only lady (umpire) holding a ball and the guys with the balls thrown at them. Like as if saying

Charmaine, crush the balls, crush them all!!

Either that or some impossible poses like the one in July 2014. Or a bunch of guys chasing after a ball in June 2014 except half the guys there are probably unfit to run half the field. Or horses. Which better to represent macho sex than horses?

Ok ok, joking. It is obviously sports theme and like every year, this year achieve a new high; photoshopped till death. For example, see January 2014 and see Linda's legs. Photoshopped.  So with so much photoshopping involved, the truly really good one which imparts the element of fantasy (thanks to photoshop) and the whole idea is actually December 2014 which is about equestrian but thanks to TVB now looks like prince charming rescuing some princess, something Disney will say "Looks good but no, we reject". Anyway Kenneth is there, the prince charming. He does look good. November 2014 seems badly edited because the perspective seems rather wrong, the girls look as big as the golfer at the forefront.  August 2014 is the worst in terms of perspective.

I do like October 2014, happy Bobby surrounded by beautiful women with Esther next to him and Wayne by the side. Does this mean Esther is back with TVB and active filming? I don't understand May 2014, as in I don't understand why Jason Chan got the focus? Is TVB really intent of unleashing him on us? Ruco is in June 2014, surrounded by veterans led by Eric Tsang which doesn't diminish Ruco's standing of course but I feel he should be in May 2014 and Jason Chan being the green one should be one of those running siu sangs. After all how many years must Ruco be a siu sang? He is a bona fide leading man now!

These calendars are important as you can see who is the main one in a specific month and the position of the rest. I think all are ok except again.. why is Jason Chan getting such prominence? Has TVB even watched his recent works? Shouldn't he be hidden somewhere? Look at him hold that prop. He really has no chemistry with props.

By the way Kevin Cheng looks good but the pose is awkward.

Anyway sports theme... or glamorised sports theme but to me, balls, all men, all women, 1 woman surrounded by men, a man surrounded by a few women, horses and whips, this is like a sanitized version of 50 Shades Of Grey, except of course this is 50 Shades Of Photoshop. I am now wondering if they even had all of them in the same shot or just cut and paste.

Sorry but don't like most of them and I certainly do not like prominence given to some I feel is a torture to my viewing senses.

UNTIL EPISODE 32 THE FINAL EPISODE

Watched it all and had some good moments but it was unfortunate at the same time I was watching Legal High 2 which to me was the better legal dramedy. I shall say no more, must leave something for my review. All I can say is Will Power is an entertaining and good series but compared to the more dynamic, consistent and varied Legal High and Legal High 2 which boasts 3 very engaging actors, Will Power seems rather insipid. But if just TVB itself, Will Power is a definite better series of the year.

UNTIL EPISODE 30

Gilbert is dead. Mama killed him trying to protect Ka Cheung, it was truly an accident. Ming is arrested and charged with murder. Now let me guess who will be the judge...

Jason Chan truly deserves the Most Undeserving of Any Award Nominations. Even beaten to a pulp, he couldn't even muster some pain or fear. Perhaps Susan should have slapped him a dozen times.

If Vincent does not win at least Most Improved, there is no justice.

UNTIL EPISODE ...DID NOT CHECK

Remember my prediction in my 14.11.2013 post? I was mostly right and I am in fact the secret screenwriter! Yes, Gilbert walks for reasons I have speculated; because of the drugs which made him lose his sense. In legal speaks, he did the deed but he did not intend to or rather the jury can't decide if he intended to rape Nana or not. And if the jury can't decide, the benefit of doubt is to Gilbert the accused. Unfair isn't it? He raped her (act) but they could not agree if he had wanted to (the mind). Actually more than 1 doctor should have been dragged to court, his urine should be tested again and the rape tape should have been replayed because I remember as Nana cried HELP HELP, Gilbert can be clearly heard saying something like YEAH I AM RAPING YOU or something like that. He seems pretty clear headed to me. Wilson did not do a good job. In fact I laughed when I think Eugene said her father had to use more than usual effort just to reply to Wilson's prosecution. I was like hey woman, your daddy was walking all over Wilson! The old man did a great job. Anyway of all the cases, this Nana's rape is the most persuasive even if very messy in how it is presented. I can understand Nana's feelings; she was raped and yet that rapist walked. The law failed her in a sense. For me if someone admitted rape, then he should be convicted and the drug thing is used for mitigation; as a persuasive point to lessen or to have no jail time. But law doesn't work that way.

Next we have the Sung family Vs Executor/Trustee Lo Sum Po. It is understandable Lo Sum Po is upset whenever he sees Gilbert but Shum Yik Wo is wrong. It is not easy to remove a trustee to a will named by the dead person, more so someone as highly respected as Lo Sum Po who has yet to do anything that is contrary to his duties as a trustee for the Sung partriach. Yes he did ram his car into Gilbert, but that was personal. Unless Gilbert failed in every attempt to take money from the trust fund due to Lo Sum Po rejecting his every proposal without reading, etc, then there's just cause. Anything less than that Shum Yik Wo can't remove Lo Sum Po. And even if he removed Lo Sum Po, I am sure the  Will would have stated that he has a right to choose his successor. Shum Yik Wo can't be the trustee because he is close to the widow and son and that in itself creates a doubt of his impartiality.  I am not sure where this will head to but I am sure about one thing; HK's only judge will be hearing this case.

I know Will Power's ratings isn't high but of all legal dramas lately, this one actually tries to be a legal drama. You do learn a lot about succession law and Will and Probate which is good. Nana's case highlights the possible arguments that can arise from such a scenario and they're credible. For that I am rather impressed.

As for performances, Wayne Lai rocks. He may not look like a lawyer, at times he was very emotional in court but I do think he was reasonably emotional. After all Nana was his mentor's daughter. I like the way he presented his case. Even Moses had some acting breakthrough. I do not agree with his layers of an onion argument when it applies to scumbags like Gilbert, because the truth is as it is. The problem is Gilbert is an obvious bad guy so I feel nothing for the layers of onions story as applied to Gilbert. But I like how unemotional Moses was when presenting the case. He is even more wooden than usual. Is it on purpose? But it works.

Jason however is still god awful.

UNTIL EPISODE ...DID NOT CHECK

Remember my prediction in my 14.11.2013 post? Let's see...

1.  Shum Yik Wo will paint Nana as this slut because

a. she was a leng mo aka model so it is assumed she loves money
b. she once did almost sleep with Gilber
c. Nana was heard telling Ming she wants a HKD200,000 ring in a shop
d. she was there at the karaoke to get money from Gilbert
e. therefore she is a gold digger who thought she could extort money from Gilbert by sleeping with him

2. Shum will disgust Eugene by making Eugene testify how she saw Nana in bed with Gilbert

3. And question Nana (about her past, about her liking Gilbert, about demanding for HKD200k from Gilbert, etc etc) until she hysterically breaks down in court and cries no no no as Wilson will just sit there and look defeated

4. And then the table turns when Ming discovers the recorded message which proves she was in distress and was indeed in a bad position when she was being forced by Gilbert and she did not seduce Gilbert

5. 2 stupid models of Nana will come forward and confess how they tried to steal his money and made him take 2 ecstasy pill which make him lose control and raped Nana

6. Perhaps someone will testify how Gilbert is a habitual drug user.

7. Wilson will win and Gilbert goes to jail OR if this series is reality base, as rape charges are hard to prosecute, more so with Nana's past even if with that recorded message which any lawyers can allege was Nana in role play (which this series won't do that and Nana has no bruises so easier for Gilbert to allege consent was given), Gilbert walks and this makes Ming hate Gilbert so much when he finds out the 2nd part to his father's Will which benefits Ming, Ming will return to haunt Gilbert and the Sungs with a grudge.

1, 2, 3 and 5 happened but not exactly. Wilson didn't look defeated, he looked worried. Models were painted as prostitutes gold digger sluts. Somehow Gilbert's drug use doesn't seem to concern anyone. I think the models have yet to bring up the 2 pills he took. The rest I suppose will happen in the next episode.

Anyway this is one episode with some good cross examination scenes. I just don't like why when Wilson and Paul (Shum Yik Wo is Paul!) were exchanging legal arguments, it was more like facing each other and 2 people having some personal arguments rather than facing the judge. Way too personal. And guess who's the judge? Where got a probate judge sit as a criminal court judge? Should Paul object to Sheila sitting there since she is rekindling her relationship with Wilson AND she has sat in few previous trials where she probably had seen Gilbert in his worst and therefore formed a negative impression already?

In the episode before this, Eugene was worried about her father's ability to handle such a huge case, because he seems pressured and I can't blame him for not turning down the case with HKD100 million fees paid in advance. But guess what? As old and shaking as he was, Paul totally killed it in his trial! I mean it was convincing. For Paul, it was strictly fee paid and doing his best because it is his work. I find that more real than Wilson being way too emotionally involved. However Paul was wrong in the rape definition, unless HK is that sort.

You see, Paul asked the Ma Sir what is rape in HK? And Ma Sir said rape is when a victim is forced with threats or violence to have sexual intercourse with the rapist. So Paul dissected the elements and said;

What I heard is there are 3 elements in here. Sex, threats and violence. My client does not deny sex took place. And we can all agree she was there on her own volition, there was no threats. Now, the only element left to a successful rape conviction. Violence. Was there violence? I will say no.

Say what?! You mean I had to be beaten to a pulp before I can say rape? What about those who was so afraid (no knives, etc) and forced to have sex? What about prostitutes? Prostitutes by definition cannot be raped? What about prostitutes who are specialist in those 50 shades of grey stuff and into role playing of slave and  master can't be raped? Paul Paul Paul, shouldn't the main element in your client's rape trial be WHETHER THERE WAS CONSENSUAL SEX? He said got, she said no. That's the main element. But I must say other than this everything else in that trial scene was well done. It made sense for once. Gilbert was convincing too in his explanation on what happened. The truth is Nana's past is coming back to haunt her. All those she said about the diamond rings, being seen by Eugene when she was about to sleep with Gilbert, etc didn't help. So Gilbert's story made sense. What Eugene said which was the truth also helped Gilbert even if she was not happy her father used her. One part I feel faltered a bit although not as terrible as the consent issue. That was when Ming (Jason who seriously is a bad actor) testified about his relationship with Nana to show she wouldn't try to seduce Gilbert since she already has a boyfriend and I thought it went off tangent with some of the things said about the nature of their relationship, etc. To me I feel does it matter?  At that point I thought Nana's case is pretty screwed. In real life, I have a feeling without the voice message, Gilbert will walk free. With the voice message he will get convicted but he can always say Nana was into role playing then. He will get a lighter sentence due to his forced drug use for that night. He lost his power over his sense and mind not voluntarily because he was falsely given 2 pills. That sort.

Anyway there will be closure in the next episode I hope. I am sure the voice recording will convict Gilbert. However hopefully Morris will testify for the prosecution on one crucial point;

He once saw Gilbert tried to force himself on Eugene in the office. And also the drug use and the fact that Gilbert has general bad character. The rule of a rape case is simple; if the victim's character is assassinated (which is 100% the case, all the time), then it is fair play for the prosecution to take apart the reputation of the accused. And I think it is pretty easy in Gilbert's case. However this being TVB, I don't expect that sort of real intelligent legal argument. I am more than satisfied with how Paul handled the case. It is quite realistic even if the basis of the rape legal argument is to me wrong, but that is because the writer did not close the gap between consent and violence and treating both as separate element.

Also the rebuttal by Wilson was also good when he was explaining on the violence part and especially the disparity between the physical aspect of both parties. I am just surprised how come Morris is not in court and I feel Paul is handling himself pretty well. He may look like greedy old bastard but hey, even the defendants deserve a good legal representation. This is why the lady statue at the top of a court house is holding a sword in one hand, a measure thing on the other and is blindfolded. She is supposed to mete out fair justice without biasness and prejudice. This episode shows that even if I am sure many will say Gilbert is a scumbag.

Food for thought. I remember there was some legal argument for the rapist that when a victim who knew she will be raped asked the rapist to wear a condom and that constituted consent. Crazy stuff. But for me consent if a bit jiffy when a girl did everything with a guy but when he is about to do the deed she suddenly say no and the guy continued with whatever he was doing. Point is don't put yourself in a vulnerable position because the law exists but the human element is harsh. You will be judged and your reputation will be in tatters. But false accusing another of rape is as despicable.

14.11.2013
UNTIL EPISODE ...DID NOT CHECK

And Nana got raped, brutally. It was quite a brutal scene, well acted, I suppose necessary to depict that one scene where as he laid on top of her she desperately held to a handphone (Gilbert's I think) and left a voice message like "Ming... HELP MEEEE!!!!". Ming did not get the message yet. So now Nana wants to prosecute Gilbert. Morris did not participate since he said "I will admit I don't have a good impression on Gilbert. But the girl he raped, that is Po's daughter! We know her!".So Eugene's dad will personally defend that bastard. No one dares to go against Eugene's dad and so I believe in the next episode Wilson will volunteer. And let me predict what will happen;

We shall see!

In real life, the 2 ecstasy pill will go towards mitigating Gilbert's sentence since he did not voluntarily lose control. And I don't see why Wilson told Uncle Po (who is Lawrence by the way) to bow and say sorry to that Shum Yik Wo when Shum Yik Wo threatened to sue Uncle Po and arrest him and what nots. If I were Wilson, I will go to Shum's face and look at him and say "Do it. You do that and I will drag you client through hell if I have to". No police will investigate such a small push and no judge will convict an emotional father whose suspect raped his only child and commit him to jail. I thought Wilson was such a coward to bow to that Shum for some few mere threats that will lead nowhere.

And I find it very funny in a sad sad way that when everyone heard Nana alleged she was raped by Gilbert, everyone believes her and readily assumes Gilbert raped her. No one even believe perhaps he was innocent. Even his mom knew in her heart he raped that girl.

But you know what I wanna see? I don't want to see Gilbert that way. I want him redeemable so instead of showing he actually raped Nana, why not have Gilbert be in a situation where he was accused of rape by someone and NO ONE believed him, not even his own lawyer obliged to defend him, not even his mom, not Eugene, not anyone, except maybe his big brother and have Gilbert suffer knowing how disgusting he was and when he was pronounced not guilty as the others realised he did not do it and tried to help him, he became lo and behold, a better person. Why can't they have  that instead of a disgusting Gilbert? Oh yeah.. because he is not the lead character. Sucks.

Performance wise, Sire Ma did better than expected. So this is the reason why her Nana exists. To be raped and become the focus point in a few episodes. Elliot Ngok did well eventhough his heartbreak at him having to bow to Shum Yik Wo scene was a bit of operatic acting. Chung King Fai was devious I tell you!. Vincent Wong was totally badass in this role. I don't understand how he can not win Most Improved over the insipid Jason Chan who was worst in here, especially when he found out Nana was raped and his expression was like his earlier expressions. As if Nana being raped is as distressing as spilling his cup of coffee. He has no idea how to give a more distressed look for a more important and urgent matter. I look at him and I shake my head. Being handsome is not everything. Speaking with an English accent is not everything. Ability to speak English is not everything. Not being able to speak proper not so accented Cantonese is not everything. Being able to show a more distressed and angry look when your girlfriend was raped is everything and he failed, failed, failed in ALL aspects. Jason, you're the equivalent of Miss HK actresses. How I suffer for Wayne Lai and Vincent Wong.
13.11.2013
UNTIL EPISODE ...DID NOT CHECK

Now the story is on Nana-Gilbert and as Gilbert goes down towards the path of self destruction, he will also drag Nana with him by raping her. Gilbert's personality is that sort that does seem to do that when he wants to. He can't force himself on Eugene since Eugene is Muay Thai practitioner, Nana is a bit weaker personally. I will speculate Gilbert will say she threw herself at him for money, ashamed she ran away and our Jason Chan will run after her and give some awful dramatic moment. In fact he was god awful during the scene where he self pitied himself about not earning much to afford an expensive ring for Nana. The more interesting thing is what will become of Gilbert? I was hoping the series will kill him off so that Susan goes into revenge overdrive. Looks like he may go to prison or even escape punishment. I really don't know how it will go on but I was so hoping Gilbert after the last brush with the law would have turned good and work hard and actually establish a business with his brother and turn into a better person. With him raping Nana, I think he won't have a chance to turn good again. That is why I despise TVB. Maybe for once there shouldn't be a clear cut villain?

12.11.2013
UNTIL EPISODE ... SERIOUSLY CAN'T REMEMBER

The whole Highlight downfall was terrible but it made for the funniest episode so far. So the legal stuff is terrible but the chemistry and comedy duo of Moses and Wayne proved to be the reason why this series is so watchable. I love how they had to think on their feet on how to survive the whole Highlight episode and in hospital, how surprisingly each  backed up the other when concerned female characters arrive. I was disappointed that the resolution of the relationships with Christine hugging Wayne and Fala about to kiss Moses was a dream. I thought how nice that for once a series does actually move on and not dangle the carrot so to speak. I do love how Moses stood up for Wayne in front of Christine, even scolding her for being mean and cold to Wayne and for showing too much affection to Bevis. I love how Bevis was man enough to see Christine is still in love with Wayne. But the next episode after that was the highlight (not the guy, I mean the spotlight).

Remember Vincent got slapped like many many times repeatedly by Damien in that So Sorry So Sucky series which was the best part and best acting moment? Maybe it is a homage but in this episode it is Susan Tse's time to slap Vincent, at first tentatively and she was holding back but by the end of the scene, she probably rivaled Damien in the number of slaps because poor Vincent's cheek was burning red!! Also best acting moment and tell me, how can Jason "My professional relationship with my bag is over!" Chan rival and get the Most Improved from Vincent "Professional slapee by veterans" Wong?  How can?! And I am sure Vincent is like "Next series which veteran get to slap me min 12 times? Chun Pui? 24 times also can!". Poor guy, so many slaps but wonderful scene of a very angry and disappointed mother. I love also how Fala's dad stood up for her in his own way. He looked selfish at first but in the end he did right.

The Prosecution wants to recruit Wayne and I was thinking well, at least we have more types of cases. Wayne said no, and I was thinking well, there goes the variety of cases.

I in fact got all the characters and their motivations. Fala's Eugene is turning to be this strong no nonsense girl that I like. If she should be nominated, it should be for this series and not the god awful TITS 2. However I don't get's Christine's Sheila. I find her so bland, so boring, even her dilemma over Wayne is like so what? Because we never see why they broke up, what made her so determined to reject Wayne when he was trying his best to woo her again and she too loved him and even Moses was like "Why you treat him like dat huh?". I don't get her.

So far Will Power proves to be quite funny when it is funny and morose when it is morose. You will think Moses will provide the fun and Wayne the drama but it turns out Wayne is the fun provider where he proves his comedic timing whilst Moses looked like he took the "anti-comedy" pill. He looked darn serious!

Jason Chan is awful. Sire Ma is confusing; her Nana isn't doing much, and is a waste of time and just a love interest for the waste of space that is Jason Chan.
08.11.2013
UNTIL EPISODE ... KABOOM! WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?

Seriously, what the hell just happened? For a series that is billed as comedy, started as comedy, is now so morosely serious I am wondering did the SERIOUS BOMB just went off and affected everyone? Notwithstanding that, I was about to say I like the legal stuff in the Highlight Vs The Society case but damn it! Damn you TVB! Why did you screw it up?!

First the Highlight case. He has a point. It is a very interesting case which shows the what if element. That symbol of power of the Association does not belong to the leader of the Association, the dead guy is just a trustee. Frankly Highlight should win the case. And if I was everyone, I would have let Highlight win and let the association kill themselves over it. But this series being morally right and strictly moral, the writer can't do that so in the end with some seriously flawed reasonings, Highlight lost. And this is where everything went ka-boom.

Highlight threw stuff at the judge (Christine). They made a ruckus. Not only were they not arrested, they were not even cautioned. The act of booing and throwing should earn them a contempt of court charge. But they went beyond. To force Wayne to release the symbol of power (that wooden dragon headed rice checker thing), the gangster threatened Christine, by tailing her, then intimidating her, then outright slapping her and punching everyone including Wayne. AND STILL NO ARREST?! Obviously she saw who did it and yet NO ARREST?! Moses meanwhile had to pay Highlight HKD2 million compensation and I kinda pitied him. In the end Wayne stole the wooden thing from office (shouldn't he have consulted his boss first?) and went with Moses to see Highlight who was convening this meeting with the elders to wrestle power. In a rare funny moment that is genuinely funny, the gangsters forced Wayne and Moses to enter the association (triad) by taking their pictures with a tablet. Very modern technology stuff! That was funny. And then the police came and arrested them all except Highlight took Moses and Wayne as hostage and now had to run.

Another ka-boom moment. Why? Wow, Highlight who displayed such shrewdness before and wasn't even afraid of intimidating a judge is now a fugitive thanks to a charge of... gathering for a triad meeting/activity?! And so the mighty has fallen, so very fast.

I was thinking where's the arrest when there should be one? If you were the police and you heard of a triad member daring to take the association to court for possession of the symbol of power, wouldn't you station a group of policemen at the court itself just to observe the proceedings? Each court may just have 1 or 2 bailiff and 1 or 2 policemen but outside there's a lot of policemen and no gangster dared to do what Highlight did. Maybe a disgruntled defendant may shoot dead the judge or hit the witness but an organised calculated act of intimidation within the court itself? And not a policeman in sight? No wonder that Ma Sir or whatever his name is can't find enough evidence to catch Highlight!

The series just turned stupid. For a moment it had a great legal possibility and then that case went belly up.

And guess what went belly up as well? Nana disappears from screen. So happy Jason is now background for a while. He can't even grab that wooden stick and run away convincingly. Vincent's Gilbert is reduced to being a 1st class jerk and nothing much to do. Eliot Ngok suddenly disappears as well. Power Chan is still not having anything to do yet and if Samantha Ko's character falls for his character, something is terribly wrong with this Ellie. Fala is still around has given this series a moral perspective. I like how she and Moses' Morris is developing; slow but steady. Fala especially did very well in here, especially that scene when she tries to explain to her father why she and Gilbert are over. There's hurt, there's humiliation, and yet a little bit of love left. There's plenty of Christine's Sheila but all her appearances amount to nothing. Sheila is still as interesting as a piece of cardboard. She is in fact the most bland and one of the worst written character; whilst Rachel of Brother's Keeper is unintentionally mean and vicious, Sheila of this series is just boring, bland and blahhh... the ultimate 3Bs.

This series was doing so well with the Highlight case but it just couldn't sustain a level of reasonableness in the characters and story. What a mess, if not for the chemistry of Moses and Wayne.

UNTIL EPISODE ... KABOOM! WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!

UNTIL EPISODE 15

First, huge applause to Fala for the best acting in her career for that break up scene with Vincent. In TITS 2 she cried and I felt nothing but here, the tears, the frustration all seem real. Vincent as 2nd son of super rich Sung was also wonderful; what a bastard!

Now back to the (not) golddigger's case. I don't get it. Sheila's judgment does not answer is the marriage in Samoa valid in the eyes of HK law. She did mention the marriage in Samoa is NOT valid in the eyes of the community, so if it isn't valid, then why is the Will invalidated?

I don't get it.

Anyway a huge chunk about Jason and Sire's Nana.

About Jason, even when playing the piano, he looks like he is typing. What is wrong with him? I was told he is a bad actor, I will say he is not a convincing actor because I don't even think he is convinced of himself.
1.11.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 14

Almost lost my patience. Again asked the wrong question which in the end I forgot what was the question.

Coming soon.

I was like huh most of the time for this episode. I don't get it. Can't a gold digger marry? Isn't the more important question is "Is the marriage in Samoa valid?" and the move to "Did they consummate the marriage?" instead of going into her past, why she married the old man. Why doesn't matter, question is did she? And if Samoa is recognised only if both had intention to marry, shouldn't the question quickly go to did the old dude wanted the ceremony in Samoa to be valid? What does that have to do with lonely man with missing children and what nots? Isn't this like going off course? And if he did intend to marry her, did he ever intend for her to inherit sayyyyy 50% of his estate? If the argument is she gave him 6 months or so of happiness and so she deserved her 50%, then what about the deceased wife who raised the 3 children who probably gave like decades of her life. How much is her percentage? And surely she will want to leave her share to the children? Why did the judge allow all those character assassination of our poor poor (not) gold digger? And why did the judge accepted the certificate of saving butterflies presented to show (not) gold digger has a heart of gold? Butterflies you say? Seriously? I read inmates love their pets but that doesn't mean they were not murderers, rapists and robbers. I mean so much more important questions but none of the right ones were asked.

Anyway this time Morris aka Eugene (Morris is not the counsel) will win. It is built that way. The morality of this series is just way too straightforward.

31.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 13

Summary;

Episode 12 is funniest. Episode 13 is getting interesting.

Episode 12 had to be the funniest thus far. Whilst I do not find Jason Chan funny, I find the situation he was in seriously funny. He is the one who issued the legal letter to his own law firm on behalf of Nana, then he was assigned to the case so he had to reply to himself, then he had to reply to what he replied and then he had to reply to what he replied to.. which was confusing until discovered by Wayne his mentor. I thought that was funny. I also thought the ringtone Moses assigned to Wayne was funny. I love the comraderie between the 2 counsels; they have no personal issues against one another, work is work. Whilst they may be annoying, each has a conscience and like Moses, he had to thread between the thin line of his conscience and what his mentor, the devious father of Fala expects him to do. I think those were nicely done. I also like the dramatic conclusion to the roast goose shop where the older brother slapped his own son in front of the lawyers, investors and his own younger brother. Now there is a new case involving Moses' ex girlfriend who married an old man who died and now the children are opposing the distribution of estate.

You see, when you marry, your marriage nullifies the Will you made previously unless you wrote in your Will that you made the Will in anticipation of marriage to so and so. So in this case by way of intestacy which means no Will made, the wife should get perhaps half and the other half shared by the 3 adult children. I feel Wayne's question is wrong when he said the question now is the motive of the woman marrying the old man. The question is;

1. where did they marry?
2. was the marriage legal and recognised in the laws of HK SAR?

If the answer is no for no. 2, there is no marriage the Will is legal. If answer is yes, then intestacy and all the children can contest is perhaps they should get more eventhough the law is pretty clear. The question as to why she married him is irrelevant.

Well it could be relevant IF there is a valid Will naming the young wife as the main beneficiary, so the questions of whether she influenced him, etc will be the main crux of the case. Perhaps the series should depict it as such because then the question as to why she married him will be relevant. Right now since there is no Will, that question is to me pretty stupid. Did they consult a lawyer?

Anyway Wayne has been winning cases for now but I think this case of Samantha Ko's story is set up for Moses and gang to win. She really loved the old man. I am sure there will be surprises like marriage in Samoa is not legal, etc etc. Quite interesting even if the questions asked are really wrong.

Are you watching Will Power? It is one heck of a series. I like it, even if I disliked the Christine dancing sequences because it is a waste of time. In fact Christine's Sheila is such a boring no personality sort of character. She is wrongly cast and the character is so bland. Jason is wrongly cast but his situation is funny. I still don't get the necessity of Sire Ma's Nana and I find her such an annoying presence because it takes away the concentration from Moses and Wayne. Moses and Wayne are fantastic in terms of how they play on each other but Wayne is the better actor. I still don't see the lawyer in them but so far they did just enough to keep my interest. I am happy to see Samantha. Ever since her attention grabbing performance in The Last Steep Ascent and her star turning performance as the rape victim who rose above her problem in The Friendly Fire, I have been anticipating what she will do next. I think she is a rather good actress and I am excited what this role will do for her.

30.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE ... LOST COUNT!

You know, Jason Chan irritates me till no end. His acting is just terrible, his delivery of lines is fluffy at best and it suddenly hit me, he is Selena Li. He is the reason I dislike Will Power. How come Vincent Wong is not getting his role? There is Vincent, a much superior actor. It is just not fair. I usually like Sire Ma but I feel her role, Nana is really a waste of space. How is she ever related to the storyline?

Interestingly Fala is doing well. This role as Eugene suits her.

If only someone else is in Jason's role (like Fred Cheng maybe?) and take out Sire's role, this series would have been better than it is now.

25.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 9

NOW ...
Isn't Eugene a guy's name? This is Fala's name in this series but did they mean Eugenie? But it is Eugene. Weird.

FORMERLY ...
In TVB universe, there is only one judge who hears probate and inheritance cases. I mean can't we have a different perspective?

Anyway last inheritance case settled. Of course Wayne won. How can he not? However Jason turning witness is wrong without Wayne knowing the 3rd part of the Will and Elliot should have let Wayne see. Because if the 3rd part benefits Jason, then his being a witness is questionable as the Sung family can say he was unduly influencing the old man before he died. What a careless act by Elliot.

Now we have a new case. 2nd son, the useless Vincent wants to invest in a roast duck restaurant which is 2 stars michelin plus 60 years old name. Good business plan except no one is sincere. The nephew (son of one of the 2 partners) of the guy who actually makes the roast duck is not interested in quality; he just wants quantity. Fala has to side her boyfriend and goes to court to fight off an injunction; that nephew stops demolishing the building where the restaurant is in and stop demolishing the coal stove so to speak that makes the duck for the past 60 years. They even fired 2 old employees. On paper, the plan is to me great. After all how is a franchise born right? But the mistake is in Fala calling the cook (the one opposing) someone too conservative when in the face of progress. Any judge will look at the plan and asks isn't the coal stove the reason why the restaurant is so successful? Well Wayne asked that, thank you for some smart observation here. As Wayne said;

Don't mistake being traditional as being conservative

Which to me is the best reason to give the injunction. What the nephew is doing is destroying the very fabric of the business and so however many millions invested, the result is it will ride on the success of the name but in the end the quality suffers. It is a 2 michelin star restaurant that is not good for a KFC type of business. I feel Wayne has a point when he said

The business as it is is doing great. Why change something that is working for something that is only on blueprint with no guarantee of success?

That is because the business itself is doing fantastic. Your product is what people want, not location itself. I do agree with the franchise point but on the basis that the stove can't be changed, the method of cooking must be preserved and why knock down the building? Expand it without knocking it down.

This is Wayne's case to win.

Now if you're wondering why are they in court over a business plan? Because the business was handed down to the 2 sons by the dead father whose Will is with Elliot and instruction is any business decision must be by consent of BOTH brothers. Since they can't agree, it is for the court to agree. I do believe when the dead father said he wanted the brothers to run the business so that it can be handed down to generations after generations, he didn't mean such wide expansion.

Anyway very intriguing case spoiled by the fact that Christine is again the judge.

Seriously Christine's role is so boring. I mean she is like cardboard in here. Zero personality. And I hate how Wayne is pursuing his ex wife again. Oh come one, MOVE ONE man! Get another woman for him.

I also don't understand why Sire (aka Nana) is to rude to nice cheeky boy Jason. I am sick of such portrayals. And Jason Chan.. oh dear.. everything he utters is to me totally lack credibility. I just can't believe his words. He delivers his lines with no conviction. He should learn from maestro Wayne.

I tell you, this year I will want Wayne to win the Best Actor again. Yes he is not believable as some big time lawyer but when he delivers his lines, in court, I believe him.

Moses is also good in here. I like how he and Wayne saluted each other with coffee. To them it is just work, nothing personal. So far Moses is taking a backseat to Wayne so I hope he will get more court time soon. Again Moses is not believable as a big time lawyer but when he delivers his line, in court, it is credible.

Fala so far is doing well. I like her so much better here than in TITS 2. That is because she is not Holiday!

But it is Elliot Ngok and Vincent Wong that made me sit up and watch. Vincent is pitch perfect as the useless rich man's son. I hope in the end he will become useful and establish a business with his brother. I mean I hope for a positive ending. Elliot Ngok surprisingly is funny when he should be and effective as the respected probate lawyer even sometimes the script doesn't make sense for someone so darn expert. Elliot Ngok should get an award.

So far Will Power has proven to be a great watch. I like how the series is focused on one issue and expands well on that. For others it may sound boring but this is where we can get to know the characters intimately. And like Chung King Fai (King sir) said in one scene;

Well I am glad we lost the case. That way the Sungs has to keep coming back to us for advice for the next 3 years. That's business

Very realistic line. Which marks the difference between Elliot's Law and Chung's Sum as lawyers. The former does it by the instructions of his clients and because he cares and the latter is purely for business.

Are you watching Will Power? If not do watch it. Kinda grows on you except for those waste of time scenes like Nana and the dancing scenes with Sheila. How I wish this is a Japanese series because it will cut out all the unnecessary scenes.
22.10.2013
UNTIL ... can't remember

Let me double check what was the episode number for the 21.10.2013 broadcast but whatever it was, that episode was golden. Some fine acting by Wayne, some good possible arguments and less Jason is a good thing. Jason Chan is dangerously close to ruining this series for me. Vincent Wong should have gotten his role because Jason Chan is just awfully terribly poor actor.
Back to those who matters.
We have the case of probate and beneficiaries vs executor. Whilst the argument about the intentions of the dead father/husband as argued by Wayne is very very logical, I feel perhaps the trial should have begun by telling us why have a trial in the 1st place. Because if every beneficiary can march into court and demand executors be removed and intentions of the person making the will aka testator be doubted and finally excluded, why then anyone bothers with a Will in the 1st place? What this series does not explain is this;
Susan and family does not doubt the validity of the signature and the Will. They're not saying the Will is forged. They can't since Will is witnessed by 2 prominent doctors and 1 prominent lawyer. So what they're doing now is to say the Will is unreasonable since they're left with HKD20 billion and possibly some major stake in the company. But I find Moses' argument to be poor. Because Wayne said it clearly; the old man had his own way of dealing with his money, none of them are exactly excluded or even poor. The company probably a public holding has its own directors and board and such. The company doesn't need the family to run itself. The trust to be created includes the probate lawyer (Elliot) and Susan the wife. So frankly it is a pretty tight Will. I trust the 3rd part of the Will must have something for Jason. Right now there is no case for Susan and family however they dislike the money is distributed because
a. the Will is valid
b. the intentions are as explained by Wayne
Now if the Will straight out gives sayyyyyyy 30% of whatever to Jason, NOW we have a case. Right now, no case.
But Moses found some bottle of rice wine or something amongst the possession of the dead guy and my bet is he will argue dead guy was drunk when making the Will or he did not know the impact of what he was doing. If this IS the argument, I will say total and absolute BS. Why? Will was witnessed by 2 doctors and 1 lawyer, all 3 can vouch for the dead guy's clarity of mind.
So for me right now Wayne is winning it for me. More so when Moses asked Wayne "If he loved his family so much why did he not leave everything for his family? Why delay it? Why the secrecy?"
Isn't that dumb? Imagine you are Li Kashing, you make a Will, you're telling me he will leave all whatever billions he have straight to his family? Of course not! He will create a trust fund. As Wayne pointed out, eldest son is mentally handicapped, 2nd son is useless and wife has no had any part to play in the wealth of the family and company since the late 70s. A careful rich man will not leave everything without conditions.
I am quite pissed with one scene where Wayne asked Power his mental deficiencies. Power has Asperger, technically it is manageable but he can't run the business or anything. So Wayne pointed out the obvious and everyone, judge included became offended because Wayne crossed the line of moral decency. Wow... let's wait for a rape trial, you think defense lawyer will think of moral decency when he asks the rape victim the rape every step of the way and every minute detail? I think Wayne is building a good case as to the intentions of the dead guy. I am offended any of them is offended,

But I feel this episode does not draw the clear line on what is at stake her. I am sure the company is public listed company and so it is not for Vincent to say he wants to run the company. It is board of directors. So whether he knows about the business or not is irrelevant. Whether Susan knows about the business is irrelevant. So Moses has a point there. But the entire episode, however excited, however fun to watch does not really tell us what is the basis of disputing the Will so I can only assume the beneficiaries were not happy with the dead man's clear intentions. If I were the judge, I will ask at the very beginning of the trial; "Counsels, what are we doing here exactly?".

Which is why Christine as a judge is a total fail.

Performances wise, Elliot Ngok is fast becoming my favourite actor in this series. I find his character most interesting and quite funny too. I was bored stiff with Wayne's stutter or inability to talk well but was glad this episode quickly corrected that. Moses is good with comedy and his expressions here are spot on. Fala is better here than in TITS 2. Vincent Wong impresses me and Jason Chan makes me wish he disappears on screen. Kill him off. Teleport him. Whatever! Just get him off screen!

So far, Will Power proves to be an interesting watch. Just ignore the illogical legal arguments or why is there even a need to sue anyone at all.

19.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 5 I THINK

I am very confused with the mid sentence thing below. I don't know what happened, why it happened, it is just it is. I am also totally losy as to which episode since I am confused with the post below.

But true, Elliot Ngok makes this series better. I mean Moses is in his element in slapstick comedic role which he excels and Wayne is doing well as in consistent. However I still don't see them as lawyers.

Tonight we have Sire Ma as some cosplay emo chick daughter of Elliot. No comment but since she appears I bet she will be Jason's love interest which means Fala will be Moses' love interest and Wayne gets back with Christine. I still find Christine's personality as interesting as a cardboard. Seriously, that woman has nothing to show and yet there she is. Fala is ok. I suppose I like the fact that she is always cleaning up after Vincent, like picking his stuff as he just stands up and leave.

So far the inheritance is getting interesting and I hope to see some good court drama.

But can I survive dear Mr Jason Chan who can't act even if it means his life is the bet? I mean he is absolutely terrible. I feel awful for him too. He tries, hard but he fails, hard as well. He is just fluffy and no sense of reality and his body language is awful, as if everything is not serious, everything is a game. I hate his interpretation of this seemingly cheerful cocky fella which is getting annoying super fast and I just hate the way he talks. I just hate him! Why can't the other guy... what's his name? Tall, fair, good looking, young, the police in that betting scandal in that Ruco's series, Brother's Keeper get this role? Or even Vincent Wong who is way way wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than our Mr Wooden Unnatural Uncomfortable Too Conscious Of Himself Jason Chan  where even bags hate him and refuse to act with him.

Why? ? Kenapa? なぜ? 為什麼?

17.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 3
I think the saving grace of this series could be the dignified Elliot Ngok and that probate lawyer character he does. Something quite interesting.
Anyway

17.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 3
I seriously could not recognise Jason Chan in the poster. I almost could not recognise Fala in the series. And it is true; Jason doesn't work well with bags of any kind.

More later. Just let me gather my thoughts.

Is it me or is everyone above 40 putting boat loads of foundation in this series? Wayne looks like he had 10 inches of foundation on, not to be outdone even Christine looks she puts as much and Moses, maybe a little less but a whole lot more. I feel like why are they making them all look much younger when they should be in mid 40s and so no make up as thick as that required?

Anyway Moses doesn't look like a lawyer. He looks like a court clerk albeit those higher up courts. Wayne doesn't look like  a lawyer, he looks like a senior legal executive helping a senior lawyer. Christine doesn't look like a judge, she looks like she is playing a judge. I have had it with her sort of interpretation of a judge; calm, cool, polite, speaks softly, etc. Believe me, judges can look like and behave like a thug or a bully. I wanna see a total bitch of a judge; one who is competent and very good at what she does but also has boatloads of attitude problem, like that of any judge there is who is emotionally not there.

As for the story, I do understand why Wayne is in this role. He is required to play a guy who had a stroke and believe me, he does that convincingly.

As for the cases, it continues with the Boat Maker vs Boat Buyer. However I don't get the logic of the argument. Boat Buyer is dead and prior to being dead he did testified to the court's satisfaction that he did not like the boat and that Boat Maker did not provide him with professionalism, etc. After he is dead, Wayne discovers he has a daughter named Sophia, exactly the name of the boat, the doors are made to fit her and Boat Buyer did make that boat for his daughter. So the court took the interpretation and recommendation of his probate lawyer, Elliot Ngok (in a rather mysterious and mystifying character) decided the real intention of Boat Buyer was to accept that boat. So Wayne won and poor Moses, deeper in debt. But what I don't get is why the court take such an interpretation when boat buyer DID testify opposite of what was interpreted? We all know boat buyer is a tasteless goon but still... what is the logic? Wouldn't it be better if this case with the boat maker arises when prior to accepting the boat the boat buyer dies, his probate lawyer rejects the boat and Wayne representing boat maker applies to court to force boat buyer's estate to pay and accept the boat because of what Wayne presented as facts in this episode? Wouldn't that be more logical? After all the daughter Sophia, now the sole beneficiary can always stop all proceedings and say she wants the boat now. What is there to stop her?

I absolutely do not get this point. And I am SICK of watching lawyers who losses an argument slump down on his chair, in each and every legal drama ever produced by TVB, except maybe The Other Truth.

And now there is a new case.

Jason Chan is obviously the illegitimate son of one of HK's top 10 richest man who just died. He has a wife (Susan Tse in the obligatory fierce 1st wife role), a possible mistress (Mary Hon in the obligatory timid mistress role), an idiot son (interesting and starring Power Chan), an arrogant useless 2nd son (charismatic Vincent Wong who for once I wish was cast as ...) and the illegitimate son who doesn't know he is illegitimate (Jason Chan whom I wish will disappear from this series and replace with Vincent Wong or anyone else for that matter). Elliot Ngok is the probate lawyer and dead guy about 4 hours or so before his death wrote a new will which says;

All expenses of all properties, salaries and all shall be paid for by the estate

All members of family shall receive HKD350,000-00 (or was ir HKD300,000-00) per month

All decisions shall be placed on a board of trustees (unnamed in the Will but I assume is the company's board of director's?)

If 2nd son wants to do business, must do so with 1st brother

2nd son's funding for business shall be decided by the board of trustees where he must submit a proposal

this trust shall go on for 3 years, after which the probate lawyer will then read the final part of the Will which shall remain confidential for now

Nothing for illegitimate son. Strange. I suppose that is in the 3rd act. 2nd son rages about dad not giving him his share and I was like why do children of rich people feel they are automatically entitled to the inheritance? It is the dad's own hard earned money. And HKD300,000-00 per month isn't shabby, considering all living expenses, etc paid for. So one will hire Moses to contest the will, the other will hire Wayne to defend the will. The Will is witnessed by no less than I think 4 people, 2 lawyers, 2 doctors so there will be some major arguments on whether dad was of clear mind when he changed the Will. I will say this Will is very difficult to contest but then TVB being TVB will give us some 15 minutes of irrelevant summation of the case and miraculously give us a sensible solution. My question is will this case take the entire series to solve?

Oh and Fala is in this series. Are you excited?

I am not.

This is not a bad series. Moses is funny, Wayne is competent, Christine is ok, Vincent should have been given a better role rather than the usual done to death role. The iffy part is the legal arguments which of course no one cares about. But for me the possible reason for me to switch off the TV is because of Jason Chan. It is not that he is a terribly bad actor. He is a bad actor for sure. He is also an actor who is to me fluffy, like Selena except his is not floating on pink fluffy clouds but rather as if he is without gravity. Everything he says, his actions, his behaviour all are not coordinated, all as if he isn't serious, every word he utters is unconvincing, like as if he is gonna say "Hey, why so serious? I'm just joking dudes and dudettes!". I feel like.. when I see him act, I feel like even if he is stabbing himself, blood flowing to the river turning the pristine river blood red as he screams "If you don't love me back, I WILL KILL MYSELF" and imagine that scene and I will still be like "Nahhh I don't believe you". In other words, he lacks gravitas as an actor, mainly due to the way he talks (not because of bad cantonese), the way his body language and of course his unconvincing relationship with his no. 1 nemesis, a bag.

Fine fine, he is a terribly bad actor. Please don't let him ruin this series. After all TVB will ruin it with its stupid legal arguments and Christine as a judge. Ha, can you believe that?! And Wayne as a lawyer... and is this even a comedy? What is so funny about a stroke?

16.10.2013
UNTIL EPISODE 1
Enjoyable but I am sick and tired of showing clients in court room dramas smirking lar, self satisfied smiles lar, going YEAH! WOOO HOOOO!!! and loooooooooong speeches that should have been objected. In fact the judge should go "I ALSO WANNA OBJECT!!" instead of sitting there looking regal when she should have said in her regal serious voice "Counsel, is there any relevance in all that?". What is the relevance? When is TVB gonna ever consult a real lawyer how trial work ... works?!

ADDITIONAL
Boat Buyer Vs Boat Maker
The very 1st case from the very 1st scene of this series and it had me fuming. How much more of nonsensical legal argument must we hear before TVB ever gets it right? Like, ever?

Here we have a renowned boat maker who made a big HKD100 million dollar worth boat with golden squat toilet, place for worship, place to play mahjong even if dark, mirrors beside each door, etc etc and the boat buyer, a billionaire from China who now rejects the boat for not being satisfactory. Moses is for the boat buyer, Wayne is for the boat maker, Christine is the judge. I think boat buyer is suing to get back his money and to return the boat. Not really a boat but those super rich's super yacht boat.

Case for the boat maker
They did everything to the specifications of the boat buyer, right down to the golden squat toilet. That's their basis of best customer service.

Case for the boat buyer
Even with nonsensical  demands, boat maker supposed to talk sense to boat buyer and to give their professional opinion and to say no when they should. Moreover boat was badly made; door too narrow for his big frame, mirrors too narrow for him to look at himself 100%, etc etc.

Legal arguments
Non existent. What Moses did was to explain to the judge what professionalism and customer service means by using Wayne's badly made super expensive suit as a basis. Judge did not once asked "What the hell are you talking about?" although Wayne did stand up and objected to the whole comparison and called it and rightfully so, a personal attack. Moses apologises, with a smirk on his face.

My assessment
Legally, boat buyer may have a case on those narrow doors, etc. Moreover boat maker's witness was ill prepared and basically admitted he did not provide or rather could not have provided a professional assessment to the boat buyer who was very unreasonable. However in real life, the contract is simple. Boat maker makes boat to the specifications of boat buyer. Moses can't turn around and say boat buyer should have given their professional assessment. Wayne could have called evidence to show how insistent boat buyer was and their job is not to give professional assessment but to guide and if rejected then to make as per the buyer's requirements, however unreasonable or stupid. Wayne at some point showed boat buyer must have been happy with the purchase because he opened a very expensive bottle of wine to celebrate. Moses countered he is so darn rich that wine is like beer to him so that doesn't count. I agree with Moses that should not be a basis. Because legally speaking, after the boat is done, the boat maker would have let boat buyer have a thorough check on the whole boat and if he signs his name on the acceptance sheet, it is a done deal. So all those looks and designs, they are not valid reasons to reject an item. The better reason is defects. After all whatever items, custom made or otherwise will come with a period of detection of defects, fixing and rejection. All these were not highlighted in this case, except I did hear something about engine if I am not mistaken. Or maybe not. The sole reason for rejection is he is not satisfied. That can't be the legal basis. A contract was formed, the goods delivered, no defects and so contract done. The silly arguments given in this series is just that; silly and non-existent.

The verdict
Christine deferred judgment and told the parties to settle out of court, if not she will deliver a decision that they won't like. This is possible, and wise enough to safeguard the brand name of boat maker. All will be private and confidential. Wayne angrily scolded her (he is her ex husband by the way and divorced 5 years ago) in her room as he expected her to make a decision no matter what rather than pander to Moses' dirty tactics. Moses flirted with her (I think he is interested in her) to which she told him to get lost.

Real life
I am sure every contract comes with a clause on termination, returns and what nots. Since this is a custom made boat, I am sure the contract does not include termination without cause. So frankly this case as presented by this series is stupid.

Anyway in the end that boat buyer actually rejected the boat because it was I think 2 feet shorter from his rival's boat!! Insane! Boat maker returns the money and boat buyer returns the boat. Wayne got scolded by boat maker for not being difficult or tough enough. I hate how everyone assumes hiring a lawyer means making things difficult for the other side. Lawyers are not here to delay stuff, or make things difficult. They're here to provide legal advice and to play fair even if many don't. They're a profession governed by ettiquettes and a governing/disciplinary body. And I have had it with depiction of super rich Chinese nationals with their arrogance with money. Only Inbound Troubles bothered to show the positive side. I hate how it shows one lawyer completely giving up when the other side provides a better legal argument, like it is some battle. The depiction is archaic and still inaccurate. Unless HK lawyers and judges act that way. Anyway in the end the boat buyer died of heart attack or something. Comeuppance I suppose.

Performances
No complaints about Christine is unconvincing as a judge and Wayne unconvincing as some high class super successful lawyer.

All about The Hobbit

I shouldn't have read the book. I shouldn't have read the wiki spoilers. No wonder Thorin was not mentioned in Lord Of The Rings. Or Fili or Kili. I mean he should be since in dwarve years he is young. But oh dear, I shouldn't have. I am gonna cry. More so when in Lord Of The Rings we know Balin died in Moria, and apparently so did Ori who was the skeleton holding that big book describing how Moria fell to the orcs!! How I know all these? Almost 9 hours of BTS. Totally awesome stuff. I digressed. Oh tissues will be my best friend for the 3rd film. I suspect for the 2nd film I will either quite dislike Thorin or Bilbo.

Anyway perfect casting of Martin Freeman as Bilbo. Loved the 1st movie, booked the 2nd movie and planned to watch also in Imax 3D.

So excited but oh so sad! I suspect 3rd film will win oscars for the sheer magnitude of it. I mean Smaug is just a small piece of the puzzle!

By the way I looooooove The Hobbit more than I did Lord Of The Rings the 1st time around. I appreciate Peter Jackson because I mean if not him, where can we ever find such fantasy films anymore? It is like a dying breed. I suspect Guillermo del Toro would have been fantastic as well. He could bring fantasy world like no other but maybe he would have differed too much from Peter Jackson's vision. I find Guillermo del Toro;s vision often this terrifying but whimsical fantasy. Pan's Labyrith is a good example. Even Pacific Rim is quite scary. Peter Jackson is more fantasy 1st, scary second. Either one would have done great justice to Tolkien's world.

Ohhhh so excited!

POSTED ON 29.11.2013
went to Taiwan recently for about a week and I went to Taipei, Taroko Gorge, Jiufen, Tam Sui and some other places. My main reason for being in Taiwan is the National Palace Museum which didn't disappoint in terms of items to see but was very frustrating due to too many people like some buffet line just to see the famous jade cabbage and pork. Anyway as usual I bought some Taiwan only gifts for my loyal readers and visitors to share with you what I experienced. They may not be much but they're expensive in terms of TWD until I switch to Ringgit mode which isn't expensive. I have 3 sets of almost equal value which you can see below.

How to enter
All you need to do is when the contest opens, just answer 2 simple questions (one answer can be found in this post and the other here from my write up about my trip) using the embedded form below and include as well your email (for eg funnlim AT gmail dot com), your location (country will do) and your preferred set (choice 1 then 2 and then 3). Successful entry will receive my email for more info such as your full address, name, etc.

Who can enter
Anyone from anywhere listed in the list of countries. Taiwan by default is not eligible.

How winner is chosen
The winners will be the 1st, 3rd and 5th persons. I will post the winning entry in the comments section and email you as well.

When to enter
Beginning 30 November 2013 and when the title post says OPEN

When it will end
Until 3 winners are found and when the title post says CLOSED

What you will need to do
Nothing really. Just answer 2 simple questions, give me the details I require (all p&c) and that's it.

What I will do
If you are from Malaysia the items will be delivered by Pos Laju. Tracking details will be emailed to you. If you are from outside Malaysia items will be delivered by registered post. You do not need to pay anything. I pay everything. I will send the items a bit later due to various factors. But I will send them. If you do not believe me, I did the same twice before in 2011 and at All About Fukuyama Masaharu in 2011. I also did it for my Xian-Shanghai-Hangzhou trip in 2012 but I can't find the post. I seriously do not know where the post gone. Those gifts were awesome though.

The items
One set each. Examine which you want.

Set A

What's in this set

Mouse pad from National Palace Museum.

Pop up postcard from Miniature Museum of Taiwan. You will need to cut along the dotted lines at the back to make it pop out.

Set B

What's in this set

Paper lantern. Hand made without any written words on it.

Hand phone dust hole cover thingy. This is the famous jade pork from National Palace Museum. Very cute and quite big.

Set C

What's in this set

Paper lantern. Hand made without any written words on it.

A flute in the shape of a small duck together with a song book. I saw the artiste who made this. He was super friendly and he assured me you can learn to blow and play this duck flute! He showed me how and though the duck is small the sound is lovely. If you know how to play flute I am sure it will be easy for you. Funny thing is you need to blow through the errrrr duck's backside. But If you can't you can use it as an ornament. Beautifully made from porcelain. My only worry is posting it to you wherever you are. Anyway I told the artiste that even if I go up the mountain for ten years I will never be able to play one single note!  Anyway this is called Ocarina.

So... make your choice!
